Frequently Asked Questions for Website

How long will my battery last during an outage?

The length of time your battery will power your home during an outage depends on how
much energy you use. Running high-consumption appliances like air conditioners or
electric ovens will drain the battery faster than running lights, refrigerators, or essential
electronics.

Refer to the table for how much power is typically used per appliance:

(These are general estimates; actual energy use depends on the model, efficiency, and settings.)

Best Practices to Maximize Battery Life:
• Power only essential devices.
• Avoid using high-wattage appliances during outages.
• Turn off lights and electronics in unoccupied rooms.
• Monitor energy usage through the system dashboard or app.
• Consider staggering appliance usage to reduce simultaneous load.

Does the battery make noise?

Yes, you may hear a soft humming noise when the battery is operating, especially when it’s
charging or discharging. This sound is normal and comes from the internal components
working.
Generally, energy storage systems (ESS) operate below 75dB, which is comparable to
typical household appliances like vacuum cleaners or dishwashers. Larger ESS setups,
especially high-capacity systems, can exceed 70dB, making them slightly more noticeable in quieter environments. However, the noise is usually minimal and not disruptive, even in
residential settings.

Is the battery DC or AC coupled?

The Terahive Flex battery system is DC-coupled. This means the battery is directly
connected to the DC side of your solar inverter system, which can offer higher efficiency
and better energy management compared to AC-coupled systems in some installations.

What type of device can I use to control my system?

You can monitor and control your Flex battery system using smart devices like smart
phones, tablets, and browsers. For smart phones and tablets, download the TeraHive
Home
app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to access real-time insights
into energy use, production, and battery health.

What should I do if my system starts to dysfunction?

In the event of system failure or dysfunction, such as visible smoke, fire, system
overheating, or suspected electrical issues, follow these steps:
1. Ensure your safety first. Evacuate the area if there is any immediate danger.
2. Shut down the system if it is safe to do so.
3. Contact emergency services (e.g., 911) for immediate assistance.
4. Once safe, contact our support team at (866) 269-4107 for further guidance and to
report the issue.

Do I need an internet connection to monitor my system?

Yes, your system requires an active internet connection to provide real-time data, software
updates, and remote diagnostics. If your internet goes down, the battery will still operate
normally, but you may lose access to live monitoring and notifications until the connection
is restored.
